The World Bank and a good number of independent think tanks and financial institutions have cited the Philippine economy as one of the fastest growing economies in the Indo-Pacific region during the ongoing global economic crisis. We are no longer the Sick Man of Asia. We have transitioned from this notoriety to being one of the promising emerging markets in the world today. This is due to the fact that the best and brightest technocrats have always been appointed to the key economic departments of the Government in the last thirty years, despite the varying quality of political leadership. Our Lifetime Contributor for 2022, former Secretary of Trade and Industry, Ramon Lopez, is a prime example of those best, and brightest appointees.
Their great contribution to sustainable economic development has been in institution building. In the case of Secretary Ramon Lopez, he made sure that during his tenure, the Government introduced major economic reforms and liberalization measures that promote greater competition, higher productivity for industries and competitive pricing for consumers. He was also an advocate for technology and innovation for smart manufacturing, MSME development and start-up ventures. He supported sound macroeconomic policies and programs, international trade collaboration and negotiation, digitalization of MSMEs, fintech and e-commerce development. He initiated numerous competency-upgrading programs for MSMEs, technology and equipment support, microfinancing, market incubation such as Go Lokal and OTOP Hubs physical and online stores and franchising development.
These institutions will live long after he leaves government service. Thanks to his integrity and professionalism, all these policy and institutional reforms will contribute to the long-term achievement of the economy that will enable the Philippines to become a First World Economy in the next twenty years, as indicated in what is known as Ambisyon Natin 2040 declared by the last Administration to which the present Government is also strongly committed. That is why Secretary Ramon Lopez fully deserves to receive this Lifetime Contributor Award for 2022.
Young Leader of the Year
Candidates for this award are individual young leaders who have accomplished remarkable achievements that advance the nation's economy or social standing in the eyes of the world. The young leaders should not be older than 35 years old during the year considered and have the title ranging from manager and up.

What Is the Circle of Excellence?
Circle of Excellence is a genuine credential on its own. From roughly 45nominations per category, PC and the judges select 10 to 14 finalists.Each is publicly named, receives a trophy, goes on stage at AwardsNight, and earns speaking invitations at Asia CEO forums.
Companies have used the recognition to raise capital, close enterprisedeals, and attract senior talent. It carries weight because the selectionprocess is credible and the field is competitive.
